TikTok Ads targeting isn’t as robust as that of Facebook, but it still allows you to customise your audience to ensure that you reach the right people with your campaigns.

Age brackets

You can build custom audiences on TikTok and add them to your ad groups.

There are 4 main ways that you can use to create a custom audience on the platform: website traffic, app activity, engagement, and customer file.

Website traffic

You can build audience groups based on the people who have visited your website, and performed certain actions including visiting a specific page, clicking a button, registering as a user, submitting a form, etc.

To target website audiences on TikTok, you need to install the TikTok Pixel which collects data periodically and helps you match them accordingly. You need to set this up long before you start running your campaigns, for the pixel to accumulate enough data to inform your campaign targeting.


Under this option, you can target users who have engaged with your ad content in the past either by clicking, viewing, or watching your ads to a certain percentage.

App Activity

Under the app activity option, you can target users who have completed certain events in your app such as installing the app, launching the app, adding a product to a cart, subscribing, and many others.

To use this option, you need to have third-party tracking set up on your application, with the in-app events option turned on.

Customer File
